Dr. Luis Gimenez-Lirola’s Lab, at Iowa State University in the College of Veterinary Medicine is developing assays for automated screening, and analysis of neutralizing antibody assays. Standardized testing of the neutralizing antibody response is critical for the vaccine development process and development of automated methods for screening is essential for streamlining testing. Optimized methods will also be used in laboratory testing of veterinary clinic samples to ensure consistency and reliability of testing procedures.
To this end, scientists in Dr. Gimenez-Lirola’s Lab are using the SpectraMax® i3x microplate reader, MiniMax™ 300 Imaging Cytometer and SoftMax® Pro Software to increase efficiency of testing towards diagnosis of porcine diseases as porcine epidemic diarrhea and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome. Moreover, the MiniMax 300 enables visual analysis of the cellular response to neutralizing antibodies, compliments existing analyses provided by standard immunoassays, and enables a more quantitative approach for high-throughput screening in vaccine development and assessment of protective immunity.
